showers trying to pop up across the area, and move in. mainly right now it's all into west virginia and also into portions of virginia as of now. we can see a couple pop up as we go through the day into our area, the front will pass and things will improve. in the meantime, this is the big view. this is tropical depression hermine pushing the rain and flooding into northern and central texas and this will move into oklahoma and also into kansas as we go through the next several days. thursday looks good. showing now a few clouds across the area but i think that we'll see plenty of sunshine as we go into tomorrow and also into friday. don't let that model fool you. as we check out what's going on in terms of temperatures today, 87 degrees is what i'm forecasting. we could reach 90 maybe into baltimore, bwi. we could see warm conditions and windy. that's the big story for today as well. then tonight, oh boy do we drop off after the front passage, clear and cooler. as we roll into tomorrow, ah, breathe! 78 degrees, mostly sunny and pleasant. i like this forecast. do you, kim brown? >>

march off toward the east. we have one shower now but it's into virginia, off towards the south and west of fredericksburg at this time. as we check out what's happening, zoom out, we have tropical depression now hermine dropping lots of rain into northern and central texas, all this is sliding up towards the north there. it will be reaching oklahoma and kansas as we go through time. flooding is a big threat. our forecast brings sunshine in as we go into tomorrow. also the cooler temperatures. but this model picks up on a few clouds. we'll see more sunshine, get ready for that. we'll have the temperature today around 87 degrees. we'll be windy and we will have those increasing clouds by tonight. 55, mostly clear and school, by tomorrow that temperature right around 78 degrees. we'll take that and here is your seven-day forecast. we'll have another 70 as we roll into friday. check it out. 77 degrees, ample sunshine in the forecast. and then by saturday, more of the same. lots of sunshine, our next chance for showers will work their way in on sunday. tell us about the traffic. >> this

virginia have recently enacted legislation that requires high school athletes to take baseline cognitive tests at the beginning of the sports season. that way if they get a head injury on the field, a second test can be given to quickly compare results. chloe said she continued to have headache for weeks after her injury. when she finally went back out on the field nearly four months later, she said she could if i will feel the effects. >> when i came back, i was a lot slower and less coordinatedism used to worry about being reinjured. after a while, it kind of went away. >> the number one treatment for a concussion really just involves a lot of rest. that mean protest the athletics and rest from school. even going back to class too soon after a head injury can cause a delay in healing. there is a lot we still don't know about head injuries. one thing we zong concussion symptoms are not to be taken lightly. >> it's scary. >> like we were saying, you only have one head. you need it for a long time. >> thanks. >>> still to come, it is rule that is hard for some parents to digest. >>> a bus

-central virginia. i don't agree will get any of that around baltimore. it has been a long time since we've seen rainfall around maryland. mostly sunny for the rest of the afternoon. we will stay between these two this afternoon. mostly sunny, breezy, unseasonably warm. average high temperature is 81. we will make it to the low 90s probably. 80s and the mountains as the winds shift to the west and northwest. cool air starts to work in and we will drop to the 50's by early tomorrow morning. low sixties in the city. high pressure comes in off of the great lakes and the winds will be coming out of the north and northwest. high temperatures will be in the 70's for the next couple of days. if you are and autumn weather fan, you will like the forecast at the end of the week. high 78 tomorrow. overnight the temperatures -- overnight low temperatures will be in the 50's. nice start to the weekend on saturday. next chance for any significant rainfall will be on sunday as we close out the weekend. high near 82. it looks like the temperatures will be and the mid-80's and the beginning of next we

. >> actually, four fires that we know of. brush fires around our area. the maryland, virginia area seeing those fires. and it has been extremely dry across our area. the good news is there is some rain in the forecast. but first a couple more very dry days. let's take a look. take a look at this. a little wind helps the sailboat go down potomac river. a beautiful day for a sail. winds gusting to 15 to 20 miles an hour. even upwards of 30 to 35. the cold front has now moved up its way. a cold front out there. what have we seen? the high pressure was 96 degrees. and boy, did we need to see a cold front. the record is up 100. we were four degrees short. luckily it is still not too humid. it has not felt all that hot across the area. speaking of 90-degree days so far this year, we're now number two is officially the warmest summer. the meteorological summer ever in the district. but the 90-degree days, we're at 6290-degree days. this could be it. we may not hit 90 the rest of the year based upon what i've been seeing. the temperatures down to 92 degrees now. the dew point of 33. the humidity,

happened right across the maryland line in charlestown west virginia. dozens jumped in to try to save the horses. >> reporter: trying to get back to normal isn't easy especially for horses that survived the fire. but there, the lucky ones. the horses people manage to set free. cell phone video shows the danger. >> we have to get out, we have to get out. the roof is on fire. >> everybody out. >> reporter: the three alarm blaze just before dawn destroyed a large barn just before the border of west virginia. 37 thoroughbred horses were killed. putting the fire out was the easy part. >> the real challenge comes with dealing with the people that were here and the dead horses and also recovering the horses who were alive and being able to get them back. >> reporter: owners and trainers who usually compete against each other are helping each other out. >> it's a terrible disaster. terrible, i've never seen anything like that and i don't want to see it again either. >> reporter: with help from the casino, they've been able to find another stable for the horses. preliminary investigation has n

driving incident that killed a nun in northern virginia will face felony murder charges. it was against 23-year-old carlos martinelli montano. he crashed into a car with three nuns in it. one died. the others badly injured. the felony murder charge is the most serious ever brought in a drunk driving case in prince william that set off a brush fire there. so far no reports of anyone injured. >>> president obama may have to find himself a new chief of staff. that's if rahm emanuel decides to run for chicago mayor. rumor has it he has been pining for the office for months telling people he'd run if mayor richard daly decided not to run for re-election. daly surprised emanuel and others today saying he will not seek a seventh term. emanuel is a resident of chicago's north side. >>> there's a phenomenon in washington tonight. it is called lady gaga. and fans of all ages, genders and costumes descended on the verizon center. john schiffen was down there and spoke with some of them tonight. >> reporter: that's right. it was quite a show tonight. i'm not talking about the concert. all n

think folks in virginia too. >> they went back yesterday and so today, we'll see another morning where it is okay. the conditions to head to school are okay. more clouds this morning. some of you out to the west may encount are a few showers here or there. at reagan national, the current temperature is 75 degrees. relative humidity is 66%. that is not bad. wind are out of the south. this is showing out cloud cover that comes through and than some of those showers. now, this overplays it a little bit. there are showers out to the west. they are not as numerous or impressive as this is showing. but it is showing some moisture associated with the frontal system that is coming through. so can't rule out a sprinkle or shower for some of our viewers early this morning. our temperature trend, after a high yesterday in the low to mid-90s, we're looking for a high today near 90 degrees. maybe about 89 degrees downtown and then for the rest of the week, highs only for the rest of the workweek, only in the upper 70s. low 80s on saturday. much cooler conditions on the way. today is your day of tra

now in washington. 75 in baltimore and in annapolis. quantico, virginia is at 74 degrees. out at dulles, it is 726789 hagerstown, 75. winchester, 78. we are watching the wind. they are coming to us out of the south. it is not blustery or anything but it will be a breezy day. right now, winds are out of the south at about 10 miles per hour here in d.c. eventually, they will shift to out of the west. that should happen touring the next several hours as this frontal system make its way through here. we will know it is coming in a couple of ways. first of all, there is some shower activity in advance of that front. most of us won't get showers but we are see a few showers off to the west and southwest of the washington so don't be surprised if you encounter a shower or sprinkle this morning. then the front comes through. winds shift to out of the west. meanwhile, this is the remnants of tropical storm hermine. it is now just a tropical depression. but still producing quite a bit of rainfall across texas. that will gradually ride up along that front and then across the mid-atlantic an

was mainly in virginia. as we give you the wire view, we'll see what's going on in tk. this was once tropical storm hermine, it's continuing into oklahoma and kansas. if you're travels take you that way, you might want to rethink that because they are definitely going to see lots of water across that area. here's our forecast. we'll have a few clouds that will move in for thursday and friday but behind the front we'll get more sunshine. so i am going to forecast mostly sunny to partly cloudy as we go through tomorrow and also friday. so we definitely have some good days ahead. and good days ahead if you like the cooler temperatures as well. temperature-wise today, there's that 87 i was walking about, maybe at bwi, we could reach around 90 degrees. so warm and windy. windy is going to be the big story again. that's basically enhancing some of the fire threats we have as well. by tonight, yes, the clouds pretty much get out of here and you'll get that cooldown as the front moves through. 55, mostly clear and by tomorrow, check out the temperatures, 78 degrees, mostly sunny and very ple
